Total Defence Day

Islandwide sounding of signal on Total Defence Day, 15 February 2010

We would like to inform you that there will be an islandwide sounding of the “Important Message” signal through the Public Warning System (PWS) on Total Defence Day, Monday 15 February 2010 at 1205 hrs.

The sounding of the PWS is part of SCDF’s public education efforts aimed at familiarising the public with the three PWS signals and to raise general awareness on how the public should react upon hearing each signal. Besides the “Important Message” signal (characterised by pulsating blasts), the two other PWS signals are the “Alarm” and the “All Clear” signals, which are characterised by wailing blasts and continuous blasts respectively.

Immediately after the sounding of the “Important Message” signal, members of the public can tune in to any of the local radio stations to listen to a special infomercial broadcast and learn more about the various PWS signals.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the PWS signals and other emergency procedures may visit the SCDF website at www.scdf.gov.sg or contact SCDF at 6848 1524/1532.
